Kaduna's open data platform
Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics is the apex statistical authority responsible for managing official data and statistical activities across Kaduna State — empowering evidence-based decision making for government, researchers, and the public.
Who we are
The Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) is the statutory body responsible for the collection, collation, analysis, interpretation, and coordination of all statistical activities in the State. It is the custodian of all State official statistics and oversees the State Statistical System.
Backed by the Kaduna State Statistics Law, KDBS was established as a Corporate Body with Perpetual Succession. The Bureau operates under the leadership of the Statistician General, who is responsible for executing all policies and pronouncements of the Bureau in accordance with the provisions of the Law.

What KDBS does
KDBS carries out a broad set of activities in service of Kaduna State's data ecosystem:
- Data collation and collection — gathering statistical data across all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
- Analysis and interpretation — transforming raw data into actionable insights for policy makers and researchers.
- Coordination — overseeing and standardising statistical activities conducted across Kaduna State.
- Survey approval — any MDA, private organisation, or individual wishing to conduct a statistical survey in Kaduna State must first obtain approval from the Bureau.
- Master Plan implementation — coordinating the execution of the State Statistical Master Plan to ensure consistent standards and quality.
About this platform
The KDBS Open Data Platform is a purpose-built system that enables government agencies, research institutions, and the public to discover, publish, and analyse official datasets from Kaduna State. The platform is built on CKAN, a world-class open-source data management system, extended with KDBS-specific features.
For MDAs
Ministries, Departments and Agencies can publish datasets, track submission status, and manage data validation cycles through a structured workflow.
For Analysts
Researchers and data analysts can search, filter, preview, and download datasets in multiple formats, with full metadata and provenance information.
For the Public
Citizens and civil society organisations can access verified, publicly available datasets and hold government accountable through data-driven analysis.
Strategic function
The strategic function of KDBS is to eliminate waste, duplication, and compromise of quality, and to improve statistical standards across the State. This is achieved through:
- Setting and enforcing data quality standards for all official statistics.
- Providing technical guidance to MDAs on data collection methodologies.
- Building statistical capacity through training and institutional development.
- Partnering with national and international statistical bodies to align with best practices.
