Custodian of official statistics for Kaduna State, coordinating data collection, analysis, research and statistical activity to support policy formulation, development planning and evaluation.

Who we are

Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS), as a service agency, serves as the custodian of official statistics, coordinates and manages all activities that relate to official statistics in Kaduna State ranging from data collation, collection, analysis, interpretation, research, and coordination of statistical activities, which will aid policy formulation, development planning, and evaluation of accomplishments.

KDBS is a corporate body backed by Kaduna State House of Assembly Law No. 3 of 2014.

Our mandate

Backed by the Kaduna State House of Assembly Law No. 3 of 2014, KDBS is a corporate body charged with:

  1. Development and management of official statistics.
  2. Collecting, compiling, interpreting, analysing, and publishing statistical information alone or in collaboration with other agencies (governmental and non-governmental).
  3. Developing and maintaining a comprehensive socio-economic State Data Bank.
  4. Fulfilling all other functions relating to statistics as directed by the government.
  5. Developing and promoting the use of statistical standards and appropriate methodologies across the State statistical system.
  6. Coordinating the State statistical system and advising the State and Local Governments on matters relating to statistics.
  7. Eliminating waste, duplication, and compromise of quality while improving statistical standards.

About this platform

The KDBS Open Data Platform is a purpose-built system that enables government agencies, research institutions, and the public to discover, publish, and analyse official datasets from Kaduna State. The platform is built on CKAN, a world-class open-source data management system, extended with KDBS-specific features.

For MDAs

Ministries, Departments and Agencies can publish datasets, track submission status, and manage data validation cycles through a structured workflow.

For Analysts

Researchers and data analysts can search, filter, preview, and download datasets in multiple formats, with full metadata and provenance information.

For the Public

Citizens and civil society organisations can access verified, publicly available datasets and hold government accountable through data-driven analysis.

Strategic function

The strategic function of KDBS is to eliminate waste, duplication, and compromise of quality, and to improve statistical standards across the State. This is achieved through:

  • Setting and enforcing data quality standards for all official statistics.
  • Providing technical guidance to MDAs on data collection methodologies.
  • Building statistical capacity through training and institutional development.
  • Partnering with national and international statistical bodies to align with best practices.
